  • Nigerian Dating Scams: Peterson Johnson of Canada

I am also at fault to get involved with a Nigerian Scammer though there are some changes and improvement I think they have made in the last few days. I see there is a post here from Sept.8,2008. I am writing here on Sept 20,2008

The story basically the same parents or parent are dead. But now this man claims to be Peterson Johnson of Canada. lived in Bremuda until he was 19 and parents died in a car crash or just mother when he was 26. He claims to be an Engineer from Hamilton, Ontario. He has done some world travelling to Paris, Scotland, this is first time in Nigerian been there just three weeks. After about 4 emails he was in love. He claimed I reminded him of his mom. How sweet. He claims he is 33 or 32 years on profile it says he is 32 but he told me he is 33. Most of his emails are well spoken english but a couple have been very broken, his last for example. Which gave me a final red flag. It sounded like a complete other person the english and grammer where so poor and what he said sounded like a stocker, not like a man in love. I took some advice from some of the post above mine. To do some digging on this Peterson Johnson, I took the first sentence in one of his letters, and google it. Surprise, Surprise to find it was a letter from another scammer, but it was from a women not my sweet Peterson.

I just wanted to add my comments because this scam details are a little different than the other comments. This guy claims to be single with no kids, he is from Canada not England or the States. He is not travelling, he is already in Nigeria working on contract for an Engineering Company. I think they are learning from the emails and the communications that us who have been scammed have sent them. Though I never gave my address, phone, or were I work to my potential mate. I was still scammed into believe that this person could have been real.

So if anyone tells you any of the information above, please don’t email them anymore also don’t give out any personal information. If anything sounds familiar to you or if you want to see the pictures of Peterson that I was sent you can email me at funnieface21@yahoo.com. Below I have also am including part of the letter that I was sent an had google the first sentence from this letter on Google.

I have also enclosing below the email address of the yahoo account that I was getting emails sent to me from.

Take Care and good luck I hope this information is helpful.

    Dear,
I am young but I have experienced the joy of love and pain of hurt before. I had to walk away to save myself from walking into more than I could handle. I may be nothing more than a romantic idealist at heart; I can’t help it. But people either move me inside, deep in my soul, or they do not. You touched me with your words and made me feel safe and feel loved again.

  • Challenges of Internet Security

The primary challenges of Internet security have everything to do with balancing accessibility and functionality with the three pillars of information security: confidentiality, integrity and availability.

The Internet has become an in disposable tool for research, commerce, art, education and virtually every part of modern life. It was the inquisitive, intelligent, intuitive and creative nature of humanity that created the Internet and its those same qualities that put individual systems linked directly to the Internet in peril. The three pillars of information security are at stake for all systems with connectivity to the Internet. The challenge is in the implementation of the necessary security controls to achieve those three pillars.

    Confidentiality:

Confidentiality pertains to protecting sensitive information. Sensitive information can be anything from private user information to classified defense data. Many organization live and die by the protection of proprietary information from competitors. During wartime, the armed services literally LIVE or DIE based on how well certain sensitive information is guarded. In the US Department of Defense is called Operational Security. Since the Internet is a critical part of the DoD (and defense organizations around the world) the confidentiality is a HUGE challenge for their Information systems exposed to the Internet. Some of the threats to there systems include: social engineering, leaks of information and accidental release of sensitive data. All of these threats can be enabled via the Internet.

Organizations must educate their user who have access to sensitive information. I’ve heard some security professionals say that educating users is bad.

But if your users have access to sensitive information (and need to have that access to do their jobs) it is imperative that they not only know WHAT is sensitive, but WHO it can be give to, WHEN it can be shared, HOW it can be share and WHY it can be shared.

    Integrity:

Data integrity is very important to all systems passing data on the Internet. Integrity has to do with whether or not the message on the other end of your connection is the same one you actually sent. Whether its your passwords being passed to your bank or the DoD passing data over the Internet, the integrity of the data is imperative. Its often taken for granted until, we are sending an email and the receiver says they got the email but the message can’t be read. Sometimes if the messages integrity is garbled or malformed it simply won’t reach its destination. If the integrity of a message can not be protected in some way or verified and checked, it is possible for someone to intercept your message, alter it, and send it on its way. Integrity is especially critical in banking and financial transactions which is why encryption and authentication take on such an important role for sensitive transactions such as ATM withdrawals, and online banking.

The challenge to maintaining Internet integrity is to ensure that link is encrypted when necessary.

    Availability:

If there is no availability there is no mission, no business, no functionality. One of the major challenges of Internet security has been Denial of Services attacks. A Denial of Service attack is when your system on the Internet (or within a network) is flooded with useless traffic such that no one else (not even you) can use it. With a misconfiguration, a denial of service can happen by accident. Its important to test the availability of an online system. Its also a good practice to see what kind of availability and access you are giving. After all, too much availability can compromise the security of your system.

Most challenges of Internet security can tie into one or more of the big three: confidentiality, confidentiality or availability. With those in mind most challenges can be overcome. But the double edged sword of security.. the very nature of it on the Internet is to constantly change and evolve with the Internet. The constant change of threats to those three aspects of security is perhaps the biggest over arching challenge.

  • Google Military-Controlled Satellite: ‘We Don’t Feel Lucky’

Google Military-Controlled Satellite Reaches Orbit, We Don’t Feel Lucky
According to the company, the GeoEye-1 satellite is the highest resolution commercial satellite orbiting the planet right now. It reached orbit yesterday, but in reality, it’s not an ordinary commercial satellite: it’s fully controlled by the Department of Defense’s U.S.

What scares me about Google, is that one day there will be a changing of the guard. Serge, Page and the mighty geeks who are humbly inheriting the Google Earth will move on to retirement or different projects. They will be replaced with power hungry Steve Balmer types and former Telecom execs with no souls or desire to NOT “do no evil”.

What will happen to all that data we entrust to them? Our emails, our files, our search results. I really like Google now, but one day it will be run a different way.

I just hope that Google doesn’t go the way of Harland “Colonel” Sanders: “Sanders sold the Kentucky Fried Chicken corporation in 1964, although he remained its corporate spokesman until his death. In 1973 he sued Heublein Inc. (the KFC parent company at the time) over alleged misuse of his image in promoting products he had not helped develop. In 1975 Heublein Inc. unsuccessfully sued Sanders for libel after he publicly referred to their gravy as “sludge” with a “wallpaper taste”.”

    – That company took over and the Colonel’s recipe, was NEVER the same again. I hope that whoever inherits Google has the same mindset. Some people don’t like the way Google is handling private data, but it could be a lot worse. They could behave like your local ISP: selling your data to the highest bidder unless you opt out be mail every other month, and allowing the federal government to violate the constitution (FISA).
