*O.k. This one is pretty funny. Number one “Congratulations” is spelled wrong. But the funniest part is that the IRS does not give money for surveys. They do not care that much about what we think. BTW, if you have this email the links and surveys are phishing sites*

  • How to catch hackers on your wireless

Techdar talks about How to catch hackers on your wireless network and how to defend your Wi-Fi from future attacks

There are lots of tools around to help people carry out ARP-related exploits and if a malicious, Wi-Fi enabled neighbour decided to find out more about your network, this could be an effective way to do it. The good news is that there are some defences out there. The bad? They can be costly and don’t always deliver the protection you might expect.

  • Worried about the collapse of the dollar? Me too.

Lately I’ve been concerned about the potential collapse of the dollar. Although it is tempting to blame George W. Bush (or any other politician – Clinton if you’re Conservative) for the current financial difficulties, its really not any one person and/or administrations fault. Rather it is a generational habit of living in debt. We allowed this Republic to run record deficits, fight wars with borrowed money and we didn’t hold them accountable. What concerns me are the words of David M. Walker, Former Comptroller General:

“declining moral values and political civility at home, an over-confident and over-extended military in foreign lands and fiscal irresponsibility by the central government”. He compares Americas self-destructive tendencies to those that

Brought about the fall of the Roman Empire.”

Listen to Peter Schiff accurately predict the subprime crisis and the bail out of 2008 two years before it happened.

Man, I love this country. I still believe the dream and principles on which this country was founded are the best in the world. This is my home, my birth place and I have been so proud of our accomplishments, so it really pains me to see us on the brink of collapse. At the same time, I can’t help but think that it is the only thing that will save us from ourselves and reign in our feeling of invincibility, naive arrogance and complacent ignorance of the representatives that have turned their backs on this Constitutional Republic.

As an American, Peter Schiff’s predictions are very difficult to accept. I want to believe that everything will magically get better. I want

To believe that the best economic times are ahead of us, but then I hear this guy talk.

As one Fox contributor said, “I don’t know whether to shoot him or shoot myself.”

My hope and prayer is that Peter is just a very pessimistic guy who was extremely accurate by accident. Maybe his total negative

view is bound to be right 50% of the time because that just how the chips fall 50% of the time. But my gut is telling me that he is

right because he has a fundamental understanding of how economics work; much like Newtonian physics can accurately predict

how fast an object will fall. He deals with science not speculation.

You can’t watch these video from here, but you should send this link to your home account an watch them there.

Peter Schiff is so right that its scary. If you actually watch the video, go a little further and check out some of his Fox news

Appearances from 2006 to now. I watch them and it made me sick to my stomach because he paints a very ugly picture

of what is ahead of the United States economy. At first, I found the more I watch, the more angry, depressed, frustrated

I got. But now I’m just looking for solutions and ways to prepare myself and family. Even if he is wrong, it won’t hurt to

    Get prepared.

    David Walker on $56 deficit

Peter Schiff predicted the collapse in 2006

Imagine it. The U.S. Government defaults on all debt and files for bankruptcy. The dollar officially collapses. The world economies are in big trouble because they held so many dollars and they are now as worthless as the paper they are printed on. In about 8 months the rest of the world (Asia & Europe) start to show signs of recovery. The world starts to collectively unload the dollar and they come flooding back into America. With no surplus, no savings, a weakened export economy and ZERO financial credibility the U.S. starts to feel the pain. Business slows WAY down. Credit markets almost completely stopped, fearing the worst people begin withdrawing large sums of money from their bank accounts, turning dollars into other Euros and sending them abroad, causing a run on the banks. “The government then enacted a set of measures that effectively froze all bank accounts for twelve months, allowing for only minor sums of cash to be withdrawn.” (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine_economic_crisis). The U.S. government enacts a new form of currency, the Amero. That is when the civil unrest really starts. There is about a year and a half where the crime and violence is so bad Martial law is necessary in some cities.

The government starts aggressively pursuing financial, energy and commodity independence. The action slows some of the job loss but the dollar is still a corpse.

When it gets this bad, the greatest threat will be crime because people will be without homes, hungry, without jobs and without hope… which is ironic since the President won his election on “hope”.

  • ATM Skimmers?

There’s a new way of stealing money from ATMs:

“Becki Turner got the call from her bank’s fraud department on Labor Day. The investigator wanted to know if she had withdrawn $500 from an ATM in California over the holiday weekend. She hadn’t. She couldn’t. Turner was home in Puyallup, Wash.

“I was just flabbergasted,” she says. “I had the card with me, the ATM was in another state, and the person using the machine had to have my security code.” Turner worried crooks had gotten into the banking system and stolen her password.

It wasn’t anything that complicated. Puyallup police say thieves snagged her account information — along with the debit card numbers and PIN codes of hundreds of other people — at two gas stations in the area.

They did it by installing their own hard-to-spot card reader, called a skimmer, on top of the card reader built into the pump. The skimmer is able to grab the account information from the card without interfering with the legitimate payment transaction.

The crooks used the stolen data to create (or clone) fake debit cards that were used at ATMs in Washington State over the Fourth of July weekend and in Northern California on Labor Day weekend. The bad guys like three-day holidays because it gives them more time to use the cards before the unauthorized withdrawals are spotted.”

  • Obama and McCain Differ on Net Neutrality – Internet Policy

If your an Internet geek like me, this issue will have a great influence on your vote.

“It wasn’t a contentious topic at last night’s presidential debate, but network neutrality is the hot-button issue on the mind of PM’s senior tech editor. He explores the candidates’ stands on the issue in a Geek the Vote edition of his biweekly trends column.” – digg via PopMech (link below)

    Obama’s view on Net Neutrality:
Protect the Openness of the Internet: A key reason the Internet has been such a success is because it is the most open network in history. It needs to stay that way. Barack Obama strongly supports the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition on the Internet.

    McCain’s view on Net Neutrality:
OOPS! – the link doesn’t work.
    The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
    ——————————————————————————–

The irony is that Obama’s likely win is probably specifically because of the Internet. His teams organizational skills on the ‘Net have been unparalelled. The only other guy who came close to his fame on ‘Net is Ron Paul.

  • Palin’s password was Popcorn?

I was wondering why conservative talk were accusing the Dems and/or liberals for hacking Palin’s account. Apparently, the guy who hacked into her account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) is the son of Rep. Mike Kernell, Tennessee state lawmaker. He simply used the “forgot my password” feature and then used publically available information to answer the security questions.

“Gov. Palin’s Alleged Hacker Indicted; Password Was ‘Popcorn’
A 20-year-old student at the University of Tennessee has been indicted for breaking into one of the email accounts of Gov. Sarah Palin and then posting screenshots of personal information obtained there to a public Web-site.

David Kernell, the son of a Democratic state lawmaker, was led into a Knoxville federal court wearing handcuffs and shackles on his ankles today and was released without posting bond, according to the Associated Press.”

Hope she’s changing all her passwords because more than likely they are all “Popcorn”.

  • Scientists launch new, ‘unbreakable’ encryption system

A new encryption system, which its creators say is unbreakable, got its first test run Wednesday in Vienna, scientists from the European Union project SECOQC announced.

    digg user kinthiri explains:
Quantum cryptography is unbreakable because if any 3rd party views it that does not have the credentials and is not the intended recipient, the simple viewing of the encrypted data by that third party changes that data such that even the intended recipient can’t decrypt it. Thus they know that there is a 3rd party viewing the stream. Effectively the data self destructs if anyone attempts to intercept it or decrypt it. This is not a new phenomenon.

What is new is that its being used commercially. It had previously been used experimentally by the military in association with researchers, but this is the first time its been brought to life outside test environments and is available commercially.

The nature of quantum mechanics makes this truly unbreakable. You couldn’t even factor this using your own quantum computer, if you could even get one with enough qbits.

  • New Scam: Students “Warned” Of Undercover Police At Polls

Young voters at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn. have already been targeted, with students reporting that flyers have been posted around campus warning that undercover police will be at the polls on Election Day looking to make arrests.

“The flyer reads like a friendly letter to fellow students relaying a warning from an “Obama supporter”: “He informed me that on the day of the election there will be undercover officers to execute warrants on those who come to vote based on the anticipated turnout,” writes the anonymous student in the letter which was later posted on the Drexel College Democrats website. ‘He advised me if I had any outstanding warrants or traffic offenses I should clear them up prior to voting.’…Political experts say the Drexel flyer is a classic example of voter suppression – a practice that involves scaring, angering, or confusing voters so that they stay at home on Election Day.

“‘The basic idea is that you intimidate people by saying that law enforcement is using the polling place to catch scofflaws…criminals…whoever. It’s basically a deterrent to keep people away from voting,’ said Allen Raymond, a former Republican operative who went to prison for three-months in 2006 for his involvement in a scheme to jam the phones at headquarters of the Democratic get-out-the vote effort in New Hampshire in 2002.”

  • More Bogus Obama Donors Surface

CBS News has learned that two donors to the Obama campaign that gave a total of $7,722 appear to have made their contributions under fake names that look like they were written by a mouse running across a keyboard: Dahsudhu Hdusahfd of Df, Hawaii with the following employer CZXVC/ZXVZXV and Uadhshgu Hduadh listed as living in Dhff, Florida

“The Obama campaign says “out of an abundance of caution” all of these donations are in the process of being returned.

Obama spokesperson Bill Burton sent CBS News the following email statement, “We constantly review our donors for any issues and while no organization is completely protected from internet fraud, we will continue to review our fundraising procedures to ensure that we are taking every available step to root-out improper contributions.”

And this is somehow proof of some nefarious plot, according to the right wingers who can’t debate on issues? The next 30 days are going to be interminable…
