Date Scam: Pictures, Names, Locations

Dating site are one of the best ways to find a mate or friends. What can beat a searchable database with pictures and descriptions of like minded people? Unfortunately, dating sites are also a great place to find people to scam.

Here are some tools you can use to separate date scammers from the legitimate people:
1) Search Engines
2) Google Images
3) Personal Information Aggregators

1) Google potential online dates:
If they have given you a name, then google it, Bing it, Yahoo it. Find out who is talking about them with “who is talking about me“. You can also use Who is talkin. If they have been around the block, you will find something on them.

2) Google Image their profile picture:
Scammers use other people’s picture for their false profile. They do it because its easy and its a picture that worked in the past so they are certain it will work on all future chumps. To check on their profile, download their picture from the dating site (or from email if they sent it to you) and drag & drop it into Google Images Search. If they grabbed the picture from someone else it will show up in a search.

3) Use a Personal Information Aggregator:
If you have their name and location, verify them in Spokeo.com. If you have not used Spokeo before… get ready for a shock. It is scary how much information is online about most of us. Keep in mind not everyone has information online but if they bought a home, own a business, changed homes a few times or went to a university, chances are there is a record of it online. If you don’t find them on Spokeo, try Zabasearch.com or white pages. With the information you gather, you can determine if its a real person or just made up. You can get their phone number, REAL email address, address.. use this information to verify if they are telling the truth.

You may have heard the saying “Trust but verify”.. well on the Internet you should not trust anyone and verify everything with two or three separate reputable sources. The ability to be anonymous on the Internet coupled with the selfish, apathetic nature of cold strangers makes tragic victims of trusting hearts. Trust NO ONE, particularly if you have not met them in person (and I would even say keep a watchful eye on those you have met in person LOL). Only time and experience with another person’s behaviors and actions will tell us what they are really all about. Knowing someone over time is really the only way to begin to allow trust to creep in.

David Mark the Nigerian Date Scammer

Beware of this man by the name David Mark a man of 54 he lives in San Jose, has a son by the name sean, he told me he loved me on the first email and that his wife died and was looking for a good woman. He said he was christian, self employed. A week later he tells me that he is going to nigeria with his son to design and build solar energy. three days in nigeria he tells me he has a crisis his son sean is in hospital and he needs money to pay for surgery. i already suspected something was wrong with this guy he insisted i was his soul mate and he loved me. I didn’t send him any money and he started calling me names and saying i was selfish because i didn’t help him. ladies be careful of davidmark9022@yahoo.com i met him on WAYN. this guys are ruthless and their english is bad half the time they can’t make out what you are saying.

Dating Site Spam Emails

Almost 2 consecutive weeks from now, I am continuously receiving these kinds of emails that are really strange because I received this in my spam folder. Try to read both emails; they have almost the same formats and content. I tried my best to research about this kind of emails and it is really a dating scam emails. I don’t even know them, so why they are going to send me emails like this. And I am a female, obviously in their email they are looking for a male partner.
Based on my research this is the way how they work:
1. They will first act like an angel and will get your attention every now and then.
2. They will agree on your sentiments and everything you say to them is like making them happy to get your trust.
3. Here comes there drama telling that they need money for food, utility bills, hospital bills etc.
4. Since you already trust her, you will give her the amount she needs, after that your money fly way!
Another thing is, sometimes they are not going to asked for money but they just need your email address, chances are you’re not the only one who receive this kind of email because they are trying to collect emails as many as they can, so once you replied on emails like this expect to receive as many spam emails in your spam folders. The emails they collected were part of their marketing plan or they just sell it to others.
So I just suggest don’t ever replied to this kind of emails! Unless you really know them and it is a verified email. Just read the emails below to find out the truth, those emails are not edited, it’s the original email I received.

Filipino Date Scammers

“Necessity is the mother of all invention” so its no wonder that countries with unstable economic conditions and decent access to the Internet have an disproportionate number of scammers, liars, con artists and criminals online. Its all about survival.

This post is one man’s assessment of certain member’s of on dating site.

The dating site filipinocupid is full of desperate people. Some desperate for love, some for companionship, and some desperate for money… I am certainly that not talking about all the members on Filipino cupid. Its actually a great site with many great people to meet. But the level of desperation and online panhandling on the site is something that must be mentioned.

I ran across several types of people on the site:

Real ladies looking for real relationships: Typically, will not ask for money and will get PISSED if you compare them to other ladies who do that. They usually have a decent job and are doing alright for themselves. Sometimes they will have a degree or be a professional in some career field. This is certainly not always the case. They are usually looking for stability, companionship, love…

Desperate ladies: They are really in need of help and will say anything to get you to help them. There is no telling how they got in their situation or how much of what they are saying is the truth. Some will scam you and there is just no way of telling whether or not they are being truthful. Some of these ladies are ladies are desperate for stability.

Ladies Desperate for Stability: They might already have a relationship with a local filippino guy but they are not able to pay bills, not able to buy much food, and need support. They seek support with ANY western guy. They are not usually choosy. I am not saying there are not good women here. And I am not saying that its bad for them to want stability. You should just be aware of this… to make a good decision before you commit to anything.

Before you decide to play Mother Theresa, consider this:
1) If they are so desperate how do they have Internet services?
2) How do they afford the utilities and rent of the place they are in?
3) How do they have a computer?
4) How can they have a webcam?

Very Good Very Truthful ladies looking for a Long Term Relationship: If you find one, consider yourself lucky. The economic situation in the Philippines makes very difficult to be a good person when you are in real need of help. As of 2010, unemployment is high in many provinces and the wages for many jobs are really not much compared to western standards. So the good ladies here are not just good, they are the best in the world. Consider this: they are willing be good for the sake of being good ahead of their own real needs. These are REMARKABLE women.

Webcam girls: Aside from the very good honest ladies, Web cam girls are my favorite. They are about business. They want money and they are honest about it. They need to figure out who you are so they will flirt to see what you are after. They will then mention that they really need help with money. Then when the moment is right, they ask if you want to see them naked. Not all of them are scammers, but since its an honor based system, if you pay first, you have to realize that there is a chance you will never see them again. Yahoo Messenger is the instant messenger of choice.

Date Scammers: These are people that hang around dating sites to trick you out of your money. They put a false profile to draw people in. Once they are talking with you they will attempt to quickly gain your trust by being very nice or saying that they are from your area and wish they could get home. Sometimes they will just tell you how very desperate they are to eat (remember the 4 points listed above before playing Mother Theresa). To be perfectly honest, unless you get to know them of a long period of time or have it on good faith from someone else that they are who they say they are, you just don’t know. And you should not give them anything. In a perfect world it would be nice to help those in real need, but the truth is that their profile is not real, they just took several other people’s money and are laughing all the way to the bank.

SCAM…William Craig Souders of Columbus/Portugal

Dating SCAM…Just don\’t want anyone else to be fooled or suckered into the same thing I did.

Met this guy on eHarmony, his name William Craig Souders, from Columbus OH. Moved here to the United States from Portugal 6 years ago. Had a daughter who lived in Portugal and attended Oporto British School (boarding school). Lost his daughter Mary’s mother at childbirth. His father was deceased. His mother was very ill…and of course she died during our correspondance (mid August).

He supposedly went to London to bid on an oil spill clean up and won the contract. His job (environmental engineer) was to clean up oil spill in Nigeria. But then his mother died and he left the job abruptly. He needed money to pay her doctor bills, burial, etc… Said he now had to sell his contract with The Shell Company (2.5 million dollar contract)….the story goes on and on…

Needless to say I got taken on this scam. (lots of money, digital camera, etc).

He supposedly is to be home here (US) this weekend. However, I have NOT be able to reach him by phone, email, or through Yahoo Messenger.

I am deciding how I want to proceed. Thinking of hiring a Private Investigator, contacting the police/FBI. I don’t want any other woman to experience the same thing I experienced.

phone # he used
london -44-703-1972439 (August 4, 2008)
(not sure where he was here)-080-36741686 (August 12, 2008)
nigeria -234-703-6719027 (August 15 to September 29, 2008)

Sunshine Hotel 8/9 Ebeano Estate New Have Junction Enugu State, Nigeria (sent digital camera via DHL)

Wired money via Moneygram and Western Union to…Chijioke Omenazu Nigeria, Enugu State (test question and answer…Who is it for? William C. Souders)

oh yeah….he even gave me his Columbus address…

1268 Langland Dr. Columbus, OH 43220

I went to this location and a man answered the door. And guess what? The man was named…. William Craig Souders (supposedly not the one from eHarmony though). Kind of fishy if you ask me.

Nigerian Scammer!!!

Hi, I am a resident of Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Qld Australia.
I joined match.com only a couple weeks ago. I was ovewhelmed by the response i got from the website that I cancelled my profile and subscription within one week of signing.

I got at least 5 guys that seems geniune. I started emailing and chatting to a guy named: William Sheldon
“supposedly” a 49 yr old widower,(wife died in a car accident 3 yrs ago) a civil engineer .. and owned his own company, with an 11 yr old daughter “Nikki” and had a nanny to look after her.

He didn’t have a photo on his match.com profile and he sent it to me once we were emailing from our personal website. His photo and supposedly daughter’s photo are from http://www.focushawaii.com that my niece have research and googled for me.

He sounds so sincere, kind and of course I fall for his good looks .. of course .. the photo was from one of the models..and then it was full on and said he was falling for me after 3 days.. then said he’s going for a business trip to London and then in Africa. He called me from London and he’s got a very strong English/cockney accent and even put his daughter on to say hello to me and that she wants to meet me back in Australia when they get back.

Then 3 days later he was in Nigeria for work.. his accent has changed ..no more very strong accent .. he said that this happens as he pick up the accent of his friends.. and here’s the crunch.. he asked me for something to make me close to him and also a playstation game for his daughter who’s mad of soccer!! And of course, stupid me .. believed him, so I spend $75.00 for the CD’s and the game and $54 for courier air express .. so that it get’s there before Valentine’s day.. as he’s so romantic and wanted something of me and promised me that he’s got a surprise present for me as well and I had to give him my address here in Surfers Paradise.

Then on friday 12/2/2010.. he asked me something so out of ordinary, he said he’s lost’s a few of his credit/etpos card and was informed by his bank in London where his “supposedly” bank account is .. that someone’s trying to steal and transfer his money out.. and becuase he is in Nigeria.. his bank has put a bar on his account that he couldn’t access it from Nigeria.. again, it was very stupid of me to believe his lies.. I told him I don’t want to do it as it’s to personal and I feel very uncomfortable to do this.. but he pleaded and keep saying please help him.. so I did.. i typed the account no, the passkey and pin number.. then this “supposedly bank” NatWest Bank of UK opened up with William Sheldon’s name and current balance was 650,000 pounds!!! I told him and said that it was ok and he was relieved.. then I closed the acc immediately and I tore the paper I wrote all the acc, passkey and pin nos straight away and into the bin..

That made me really freaky.. so I’ve told most of my very close girlfriends and my nieces/my daughter.. they all saying this is really weird and sounds very fishy.. so .. I pretended that my computer had virus and block his name on MSN so he couldn’t see me online when I’m using the computer… and I just keep the communication open thru my iPhone..

I got my friend who’s IT savvy, he checked and looked for the IP address, i kept all his emails from the very start, I havent deleted any even now.. and we found out that it’s in Nigeria and one in London. Also, my nieces and daughter’s have been searching and googling the website of Nigerian scammers that I truly believed that he’s definitely one of them… I’m still
playing him along until this friday – 19/2/2010.. so please if you are going to post this .. wait until after the 20th.. when I will stop all communications from him to block all his emails and MSN for good.. and would not take any calls from him!! I’m sure Qld Police will forward my report to the proper authorities overseas and i hope they put them in jail!!

Lucky I was only scammed for a small amount .. and woke up to my senses that I was being conned/duped by such an expert conn artist!!!

By the way, I almost forgot to mentioned that he asked me via email today – 16/2/2010, some money to pay for his daughter’s hospital fees (she was sick.. got malaria) and also a airfare ticket back to Australia..as he can’t raise any funds for this expenses!! My God .. the audacity of him to think that I’ll be such a stupid fool to fall for this scam!!! No bloody way in the world he’ll get a cent from me!!! Fat chance!!!

Please, I ask women and men out there using the internet dating to be very very careful.. I’m for one will never ever try this kind of dating again ever!!!

Thanks heaps!!!
